Course content

In this course (duration 70 minutes) you will learn about Residual Stresses in injection molded parts. Starting from the classical thermo-mechanical (cooling) stresses present in most material manufacturing processes, we will see how these stresses are upset by the presence of mold constraints. We will then look at how the Packing phase can induce dangerous tensile stresses responsible for Stress-Cracking failure. Finally, we will discover how differential shrinkage ends up being the most important cause of residual stresses in molded specimens.
